Recently, we had the honor of hosting a team from TJX at our Long Beach Rehabilitation Center, which also houses one of our key distribution centers.
This visit was more than just a tour—it was an opportunity to explore the deep alignment between our organizations and discover the many ways our processes resonate with one another.
This alignment is part of what we call “The MC Connection,” highlighting the parallels between merchandising and charity.
Just as TJX carefully curates and distributes merchandise to reach valued customers, The Salvation Army similarly manages donations to maximize their impact on those in need.

During the visit, we delved into what we call the “Journey of a TJX Donation.”
When TJX donations arrive at The Salvation Army, they embark on their own journey— a journey that emphasizes sustainability at every stage. From initial processing and sales to recycling and program funding, each step is designed to maximize the impact of every item.
Similarly, this journey closely mirrors TJX’s own process, famously illustrated through “Life of the Red Blouse.”
At TJX, this journey traces the merchandise from planning all the way to its arrival in the hands of valued customers, showcasing the thoughtful steps taken to ensure quality and satisfaction.
Ultimately, these efforts contribute to our broader mission of saving lives and supporting those in need.
By working together, we’re not only aligning our processes but also reinforcing our shared commitment to sustainability and community welfare.
