YOU have the power to make a profound difference in your community.
You may not realize it, but when you donate or shop at Salvation Army, you set in motion a whole series of earth-friendly activities. Every item you donate or purchase at a Salvation Army store is one less item thrown away.
It’s instant recycling.
Your contributions go far beyond simply clearing out inventory—they promote a more sustainable, circular economy by giving new life to goods that might otherwise go to waste.
At the same time, they play a crucial role in our efforts to combat homelessness and substance abuse, ensuring that those who need it most receive the support and care they deserve.

Sustainability Statistics
As one of the oldest and largest recyclers in the world, we divert over 100 million pounds of waste away from landfills annually.
In fact, Salvation Army was initially founded on sustainable principles.
In the late 19th century, we recognized that many of the goods people no longer wanted could still be useful to others, especially the impoverished communities we served.
Groups called the “Salvage Brigades” were established in the UK, which collected a variety of discarded materials like newspapers, clothing, and other goods from people’s homes. The newspapers were either reused or resold in Salvation Army thrift stores to help fund the Army’s social services.
This practice provided the opportunity to raise money for our charitable programs, while providing employment opportunities for those in need.
The recycling of newspapers and other items was an innovative way to address both social and environmental concerns, setting the foundation for our long-standing commitment to sustainability.
Today, the Salvation Army plays a crucial role in diverting millions of tons of waste from landfills each year, promoting sustainability and circular economy principles while continuing to support our mission to help those in need.

We Want You as a Partner!
We believe that sustainability is a team effort, and we want you to join us in making a tangible difference.
Every item donated helps us provide essential resources and support to individuals struggling with life-long challenges.
The more that resale becomes ingrained as part of the consumer experience –buy-wear-sell-repeat– the more customers and brands are likely to think about the life cycle of their products.
And that’s pretty significant…
Join us in creating a stronger and more compassionate community.

Here, your excess inventory is a beacon of hope.
Because as consumers connect more with brands—whether online or in stores—they can reduce environmental impact by making more sustainable choices.
As a final thought, supporting brands that prioritize eco-friendly practices helps combat textile waste, promoting a shift toward upcycling, recycling, and reducing the harm caused by fast fashion.
A partnership with The Salvation Army will:
- Bolster your circularity initiatives.
- Enhance your brand’s social responsibility profile.
- Resonate with your customers’ values.
This is the solution you have been waiting for.
